« on: August 04, 2016, 10:03:02 PM »
Hi all, ive got a question about the spacing of the cluth plates,i`ve always seen that plain/friction plates alternate each other and yet i see 2 plain plates held together with rivots in the middle of the sequence? ive looked at umpteen pics of same engine and dont see this space, can anyone throw some light on this thanks,i`ll upload a pic that shows this space created by these 2 plain plates

Not that my answer may help you but I'm 2nd owner of a CB500/4 which I've had for 39 years and when I replaced my clutch plates for the first time some years ago I had one extra in the basket that shouldn't have been there !  Whether on factory assembly someone got carried away I'll never know but replaced with new set as supplied and still working after 30 years or so.
Maybe have a look at the SCHEMATIC pictures relevant to your bike on www.cmsnl.com can sometimes be useful.

It was a mod to try and stop clutch rattle, used on Wings and F2 as well if I remember right
