Advice needed
« on: October 01, 2016, 11:13:09 AM »
I am trying to loosen off the brake gland to bleed the brake.  It just wont move with a little spanner or mole grips. I have sprayed wd40 on it. Any suggestions ? Heat it up ?

Yes I would heat it up, try just heating the nipple, get it really hot then quench it, the expansion and contraction may just do the trick, failing that heat the calliper where the nipple fits , you do risk damaging the brake seal though, also a long socket may work better than a spanner.

PS I just realised you might not mean the nipple but further up on one of the connections, if that's the case don't bother , you'd be better off reverse bleeding the brake through the nipple using a syringe and tube fitted to the nipple.

If its the nipple warm the caliper not the nipple and use a long socket with T bar to get an even undo as they shear easy

Thanks guys. I warmed it a bit then found a very small socket. Had never used it before. It did the job. Put new brake fluid in . The front end dives now but doesn't stop the bike lol

Functioning to design intent then! 😄

I've done the twin disc conversion on mine and it now actually stops!.

Same hear Mark, the twin discs do make a difference with the original callipers but still leave a lot to be desired compared with the modern bikes.

PS. I bet you have stuck at least another 60 miles on your new Duke today. 8)
See you tomorrow if you can make it

It depends what master cylinder is used and how they are set up as well Graham, mine are really very good and not that far behind modern brakes, not blowing my own trumpet there it's just that more by luck than judgement I've ended up with very good brakes, fireblade master cylinder, seperate braided hoses and it will squeal the front tyre, never tried them in the wet mind!.

Only 50 on the scrambler today, talked too much! 😄, I'll make up for it tomorrow though!, what time you thinking of going to CMC?
