Will the tyre clear??? Please help. Start again.
« on: September 11, 2016, 11:32:33 AM »
Thanks to yozzer after spending all day yesterday fabricating the seat tray for the new electrics he pointed out to check the clearance.
There's no weight on it as its a bare frame with the back end jacked up all the way under is own weight and no bushes in the swing arm I've got about 45mm. I've bought new Hagon shocks to go on.
Will this be ok?

Just been out and measured mine I've got 90mm distance . And that was tight when checked without springs on .I seem to remember it left about 10mm between tyre and inner of frame

I gained some clearance by having a hump in middle bit like the inner mud guard think you can make it out in pictures [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Right I've had an idea instead of cutting out and changing the whole design, I've been thinking of using shock extenders, which will suit the scrambler look anyway. Any body used these or do you think they might destroy the ride?
Thanks in anticipation.

Longer shocks maybe, extenders I wouldn't trust

Bryan I was thinking the same. I'm going to call Hagon tomorrow. If they do one then there will be a new set up for sale. If not I was going to ask Hagon if they do extenders if not yozzer knows a very good engineering company that will be able to sort me something.
I like the look I've got so if I can work something out then that's the way I would like to go.

No worries buddy, that's why I posted the pictures, I know there are plenty of people on here who've already done theirs and not had the input of others to help them out. If I hadn't of posted you wouldn't of asked and I would of been proper narked after having it powder coated, built up then drop it on the ground only to wonder why it won't move!
So I'll say thank you.

Shock extenders or longer shocks may appear to be an easy route out of the problem. But beware that you will be jacking the back up and that changes the geometry so it may end up killing the handling, or even worse be dangerous. Get Hagons expert advice on it first.

It's my first call this morning royhall.
I'm thinking of increasing the shock length from 340-370 the dropping the rear tyre from 110/90/18 to 110/80/18. That will get me the 40mm I need but I'll see what Hagon say first.
Any other ideas out there?

Dropping the tyre size from /90/ to /80/ will only give 5mm difference and then it depends on the profile

Thank you trigger, the folks on here are tip top.
Spoke to Hagon. Very knowledgeable and helpful.
So information I've gained. You need to allow 80mm travel but Hagon can build you a shock with 60mm on top of this you need to allow another 10mm. So always aim for 90mm (just like yozzer said) for tyre profiles as same tyre sizes don't equate to same size profiles.
Looks like I'm going back to the madness room.
