Hello from mid Wales.....
« on: September 20, 2016, 11:02:14 AM »
Hi every,

Bought my first bike.... Never owned one before but like a project.

I've just bought a 1977 CB 550 f USA.

It doesn't run and isn't registered over here yet.
I'd guess it's been parked up for about 15years.

The known problems:-
Right hand start switch is buggered.
No battery.
Throttle cables snapped. This was my fault.
Carbs will need rebuilding. Fuel left in bowls.
Front front brake need work. Cyclinder rebuild.
Exhaust silencer rusted through.

And until I get the engine running who knows what else.

Hi, sounds like you are well ahead of my first cb500/ 550 projects, where there were between 2 bikes, 5 engines all in boxes of mixed bits with the 550 having had a camchain trash everything but the clutch, and the 500s lacking a cluch ( one of the few bits that don't swap over between bikes!) If I managed to get that running ( pre internet forums for this stuff)  then I'm sure with a bit of help off the expirienced folk on this forum you'll get your bike up and running and be able to enjoy riding it. What bit of Mid Wales are you in by the way? I'm in a rural bit about midway betwen Machynlleth, Llanidloes and Newtown. Great roads for riding a cb550.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock
