Refitting carbs help required
« on: September 25, 2016, 08:48:50 PM »
Hi
I'm trying to refit my carbs on  my K3,  I have fitted the air box to the back of the carbs, however I am finding it extremely difficult to get the carbs onto the inlet port stubs, is there a good lubricant I can put on the stubs or on the inside of the rubbers that won't damage the carbs?

Anyone got any good advice on this one?

Many thanks
Dave

Try heating the rubbers with a hair dryer or hot air gun (not too close or hot with the latter!) and possibly a water based lubricant such as KY jelly, DO NOT use Vaseline or other petroleum based lubricants ie grease, oil, WD40 etc
If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!

I use a different method, I unbolt the alloy manifolds from the head an fit them to the carbs first using a heat gun to soften the rubbers. It is then possible to slide the assembly in as a unit and bolt them back up.
Love the 500 and 550 have a 500 called Lazarus under restoration

Heard some bad reports on Cruzinimage rubber parts Rich
I got the Cruzinimage intake rubbers for the 350F. Just had to take the carbs off as its running really rich and noticed the rubbers are already cracking. They have done a total of 120 miles.

Glad you are backing me on that Roy ... I was thinking it was just me that was of the opinion that they are sh*te on rubber parts. Imagine if that was a camchain roller or guide !

I thought the previous reports of Cruzinimage rubber parts being sh*te applied more to internal rubber parts (rollers, guides) but it seems there is more to it than that. You live and learn .... Better to find out now than later, as Roy has done.

I see DS have four genuine rubbers in stock (http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/CB550K3/part_5392/) so perhaps get them while you can!
They also sell a cheaper pattern set of rubbers but no stock right now anyway.

550F3 ones at £6.90p each, wish they sold genuine 750F2 rubbers for that price. Snap their hands off whilst they are there. Come to that the genuine 350F rubbers are £23.10p each that's going to be about £100 for 4 delivered. Ouch.

I think I have a nice soft Genuine Honda  set  you can have ... thought they would fit my 500K0  but they didn't so bought Genuine NOS then found a nice soft 500 set too. If Rich, RGP 750 is reading this do you want the 500 ones they are used but nice?

Yours for the postage.

Don't know if mine on the 350 are knackered yet, but spotted external cracks when taking the carbs off. They may be okay inside, haven't checked fully. Will have a good look at weekend and report back.
