1998 xr250r

Well while I keep making mistakes with my 1978 cb750 sohc I needed to get something to ride so I got myself a proper rough and ready xr250. It's got different screws and bolts all over, there are cable ties where there shouldn't be and although I've only had it two days I've already had to replace  the rear shock bushes (done lower upper on order).
All that said and the fact that I haven't even got it into 3rd gear yet (no tax or helmet) I bloody love it.
It's been rebored to 278cc had a new jet and been rebuilt 3 years ago. It starts on 2nd or 3rd kick and has the looks that only a mother would love.
I could do with a replacement silencer if anyone has one to sell I might be interested.
Any advice out there would be greatly appreciated.

Hi mark, that's half the reason I bought it. Might get the shock redone as its been 18 years since it was done and it needs nitrogen so not a home workshop job. First time I've got a bike that I'm looking forward to riding in the winter.

Yes that will be excellent in the snow 😄, Think I might look out for something similar for the winter, trouble is I've left it a bit late and everyone else is after them!.

Excellent bikes the XR250R. Just keep an eye on the oil level before every rideout as any big bore kit tends to let oil by more than the standard piston. The valve clearances also need to be checked on a regular basis.

I have the 400 version & used to race it in enduros & 3 hour H&H events until I bought a better bike with electric start.

Yes, still got the XR-SM. But as i've got quite a few bikes there's not always time to ride them.

I got myself also a grannie, I have rebuild the engine with a friend 2 weeks ago! And it is great to ride... cant say the same about the way it looks!
