Cor i didn't think this gold could be such a mine field.
PLEASE MENNO DON'T GET WORRIED BY THIS.
Menno has painted my 175 in gold and i will get it in the next few weeks, i have a gold 175 fork lower
in the original Honda brown paper and never seen the light of day for extended time.
The gold is as i remember it on my 175 in 72 so will be interesting to see my new paint compared to the sample,
yes maybe in the light of this discussion i should have sent it to him.

The bottom picture looks like LX but. I see that these are not OEM panels. Too many badge holes and not black on the bottom mounting lug.
I was also wondering if in the German parts book on the 500K0 if it says Starlight gold or Candy.

I though I would contact a friend (trader) in Germany to find out if Starlight gold on the 500K0 was used in Germany but, it is very confusing and no conclusive answer.
He responded with :
Hi Graham,
sorry for the late response.
I'm not too sure myself. I never owned a K0 when it was first released. Some German Honda owner web sites state that starlight gold was available in Germany whereas others claim the K0 was never sold with starlight gold in Germany.
Regards
Frank

So, after all your help it might be interesting to tell about my findings on this matter.

Thanks everyone for their input on this matter.

So there are three kinds of candy gold to be found on Honda bikes from the 70's

One of them is candy starlight gold:
The right one is an original sidecover and is exactly the same as the one Oddjob send to me.
The left one I painted.

Now for the interesting part: I have a cb 350 tank in starlight gold as well.
It is a bit fainted but clearly the same colour.

This makes me believe that starlight gold was not only for a cb 500 four.

An other colour is candy custom gold.

It's the darker version of starlight gold.
Interesting:
Both have the same base silver metallic.
The difference between them? More orange in the yellow candy, that's it.

It is almost like someone experimented with the candy and put in some more orange.
The left one is the candy custom gold the right one the starlight gold.

The third colour is a much lighter candy - almost citron colour.
I've seen it on Honda dax for instance:

I'm not very good with colours but I can see the Dax and the CB500K0 are two totally different colours. Very interesting posts your putting on Menno.

Menno - you sure that 500 pic isn't the Candy Jade green promotional bike, just with the photo over exposed?

Maybe the last picture isn't a good example. I've put a questionmark with it.
Maybe someone has a better picture?

Also; I've noticed that it make a lot of difference on what kind of computer you watch those pictures.
I once saw my own website at a clients place and I was surprised to see how different the colours looked in comparisment with the computer I work with.

Agree with Menno that viewing on a computer screen seems to give a whole variety of colours. But on the same screen the Dax and cb500 look different. Could not make up my mind about my 500K1. Wanted it gold, but some of the variations that I viewed online I could not live with. So it was either brown or black. So I chose candy ruby red.
And I have been using it Menno, but eventually when I pull it apart, do the primary chain on put the new pipes on it I'll send you a pic Menno.
