CB400f Red Paint
« on: January 23, 2017, 08:18:35 PM »

Hi all.......does anyone know of a good match for the Honda Light Ruby Red Paint as used on the early CB400f?

I bought a touch up pot from RS Paints via Amazon, having used them many times before.....and it's miles off, almost pink by comparison; I'm very surprised because RS Paints are normally dependable for a perfect match.

I've tried email......no response thus far....so, anyone know of a good substitute? it's only for a few tiny chips.

Mick.

Ask Nurse Julie which Maybelline nail varnish shade is correct for the F1 red.
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

Haha, your not gonna believe it Mike but I have never had to match Ruby Red. The red nail varnishes I have here are all quite dark in comparison to the real thing. If it were me, I would walk around Boots with a side panel and find a match that way  ::) ::)

Walk around boots with a side panel, checking out the nail varnish......what could possibly go wrong?

I'll try Halfords though...bit disappointed in RS paints.

Get your Mrs to go to Boots with your sidepanel.  Women are supposed to be better at comparing shades of colours than blokes.  That part of their brain is bigger apparently,  at the expense of the reverse parking part.  ;D

Mick,
Take the side panel to your local car paint re-finishers. I use Rotherham refinishers, they will match it exactly to the side panel. I can't remember exactly but it was a rosso red can't remember what manufacturer.
They can make you up a rattle can if you are going down that road. If I remember I will have a look tonight.

If you only want to touch up a few tiny chips then a rattle can seems slight overkill.
I have to agree with the nail varnish route - they (apparently) come in about a zillion different shades and you even get a brush in there, although possibly a bit big for your needs.

Rosso red is a Ford Fiesta Mk2 colour, athough there may be other Rosso reds.

Many thanks for all of that, very much appreciated.......Paul; if you are able to find out which shade of Rosso Red you used that would be better still......I'm not sure if we have a paint supplier round here who would be able to mix and supply in a can, but no harm in looking so thanks for the prompt.

Mick.

P.S. RS Paints did get back to me, I sent them all the photo detail they required and in fairness they were very helpful in that they offered to re mix some paint specifically...the downside is, they want one of my side panels which I'm not going to risk losing..(I would if I had a perfect spare)

I'll see what I've got on the shelf.
I might have some 400 red in the shop...

Thanks Menno, I'd be very happy to buy a small pot, just enough for touch ins if you do have any.

Ok, I've taken a look.

I have the paint and I can send you a small amount for touch ups.
But you have to realise it might not be 100% correct since your original paint might have faded a bit through time.
I believe originaly Honda painted the red over a orange base. So you might have to touch in a bit of orange or white if the paint is chipped to the bare metal.

Please send me your adress and I'll get it out to you.

As Manno says. If it is only for touch ups I would take the tank and get the paint matched.
You must have a supplier neer you. Go to a crash repaire garage and ask them who locally supplies their paint.
