400f frame with 550 engine

does anyone know if a 550 engine will fit in a 400f frame sorry if this has already been asked

I would say probably not, the 400 frame is considerably different to the 550, and chances are the 550 motor is taller.
If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!

The 500 is externally the same size as the 550, only the bore size is different, so no again. Why do you want to do this?

The only engine that will fit a 400 frame is a 350 four.

I picked up a very cheap 400/4 engine years ago as the guys in the breakers saw my 500/4 and said they had an engine that 'might fit that' in the back of a shed. I bought it home and decided it was way too different to fit, from what I rember it looked possible for a 400 engine to go in a 500 with a lot of work but the other way would not very likey be viable. If someone really wanted to it might be possible - many years ago I worked on a project fitting a cr500 engine into a Cagiva mito 125 leaving the bike looking very close to standard - might be possible with enough skill, time, rule bending etc but not worth it.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock
