Cleaning crankcases

(1/1)

Ashdowner:
My 550K3 top-end is off for blasting, my crankcase sides are polishing up nicely, but that leaves the crankcase at the front below the barrels which is pretty dull, covered in ribs, and either it's just totally tarnished or it has some sort of paint covering on it. It's covered in ribs and nooks and crannies so has anyone got a suggestion on the easiest way to get it looking good without spending months rubbing my fingers to the bone?

mike the bike:
Funnily enough  I'm at the same stage.  I bought one of those nylon wire brushes that goes in the drill,  available from Toolstation.  Also a stainless scourer.  The plan is to shift all the loose flaky coating, then mask and etch-prime it before the silver VHT.
I'll give a rest for today though, going on a rideout.

Ashdowner:
I got a load of brass brushes for my Dremel and I'm using those to good effect. It gets rid of the crud and makes a good start to polishing the alloy.
