Broken front engine mounting lug

Have been looking at a UK K2 but have just been advised by the owner that whilst he was tightening the front right 10mm engine mounting bolt that a part of the mounting lug has broken where the nut is held captive in the front casing channel. He is hoping to get it welded in situ but is this a know weakness with the cases in this position and is a successful repair possible in this location? 

Is it a bike that one should walk away from?

Personally I would walk away unless it's a very good deal....I would also ask form pictures of the damage before he has the repair done so you know the extent of the damage...

Thanks for the reply and advice. I am awaiting some photos of the damage as it is now and also after it has been done, if it can be?

Is it a known problem area for these bikes?

Years ago when I was 19 I traded my CB200 for a used 400/4. It had been owned by a old guy who had fitted full touring equipment including a huge barn door fairing and crash bars. All the added weight made the bike weave at anything above 70mph so I took it all off. Unbeknown to me the lower crash bar bolts which were also the lower front engine mounting bolts were 3mm longer than the original bolts. Result, when I went for a ride oil weeped from the crack in the crankcase beside the mounting lug caused by the longer bolt bottoming out against the case. Nobody would weld the crack so I used araldite over it until I could find/afford a s/h engine! An expensive lesson learned!
Good luck with any repairs if you decide to buy it but I would insist on seeing it running first and get it good and hot.

If its just the part that holds the nut in position it will be fine as long as the lug is intact.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes it is just the bottom part below where the nut rests, a 'V' section has been broken out welded and cleaned up. The lug itself is OK.

Are they known to break the casing here and is it a indication that the wrong size nut has been used? Is this a 'special' Honda size nut or just a std 10mm full nut?

Have been provided with some photos of before and after, though do not think it is fair to post on here as it is not my bike.

One of my bikes has a small bit chipped out of it in the same position. I recon it were the nut hasn't been located properly prior to being tightened.
