Who mentioned cooling fins? I specifically said I use the Duplicolor on Honda alloy crankcases and side covers. It's good to 260°C ...if the crankcases on any of my engines reached anywhere near that temperature I wouldn't be worrying about the shade of silver.

So what paint do you use on the 750 head and barrels? You put a photo up of 750 cases, I'm assuming they were a photo of your cases, so what paint did you use for the rest of the engine?. Show me a photo of the complete finished engine in the bike.

Cylinder heads do not go above 375F as a rule, As Jo says, if they do the paint on it is the least of your worries. So 500F should be more than ample.

If you read the title of this post it is titled 'Cases OE Finish' ... so I answered that question, based on my own personal preference and that's why I put up a picture of my CB750 cases.

I wish I could show you a picture of my completed bike but it's been in pieces since 2009 and won't be reassembled anytime soon I guess ...main reason I am concentrating on my smaller bikes like CB92 etc,  as things have moved on since 2009 in a now  market  flooded with CB750 'show ponies'

What do I use on my cylinder head, barrels etc. ?  ... Well that's a totally  different question to the title. Answer is Simoniz paint ... exactly the same  spec/code, as detailed on here but I only  use because it handles a higher temperature.  I tried  the Simoniz on the crankcases and it just didn't look right compared with OEM ... so I gladly pay 25 quid a can for the Duplicolor,  as I am very happy with the finish, as are loads of folks on the USA site.

Oddjob ... Sorry ... I chickened out on using the Duplicolor on top-end components and I am still not convinced that it wouldn't be perfectly fine to use the Duplicolor paint on those parts too. Pretty sure the USA guys use it on their top ends.

As I said before horses for courses.

Ah, OK, I understand now. You're not working on CB SOHC/4's at all then, oh well, never mind.

Yes, luckily we only ever build and personally own UK models ourselves, so we don't have that problem to worry about.

How petrol resistant is the Simoniz paint after baking. It seems almost inevitable that some leaks will occur onto the crankcase at some stage in fettling. Does it need resistant lacquer as well ?

It's highly petrol resistant once baked and doesn't need lacquer. A small fuel spillage won't remove the paint but I'm sure if you soaked something painted in Simoniz for quite some time, the paint will come off, as it would with any paint. Once carbs are set up, there shouldn't be any fuel leaks anyway, except maybe down the overflow tubes which dangle down under the bike well below any painted surfaces anyway.
