Carb rebuild kits
« on: April 23, 2017, 06:08:49 PM »
I'm just about to start rebuilding a set of '72 500 carbs for my bike. I'm looking to replace all seals o rings, jets etc.

Is there a preferred brand/supplier of car brebuild kits I should buy?

Thanks
Mike

+1 on Cruzinimage carb kits. I have never had a problem with them. (I'm sure someone will be along soon to tell you they are crap as opinions are well divided on carb kits)

Agree in part with cruzinimage as I did my 400 with a set. However, when I recently did my 500 I could not source a set from them as they were either out of stock or have stopped doing them.
Instead I got a set from 4into1.com. Price was very reasonable and arrived in about a week. I just fired the 500 up yesterday with the new parts in and she goes very nicely. So can recommend the parts if you can't find the cruzinimage ones or any others.

Thanks for the input everyone, I did contact cruzinimage about buying a set from them but got no response. I will go for a set from 4into1 hopefully they will do the job.

Thanks
Mike

I used 4 into 1 for my 350, had to polish the float needles a bit, but would certainly use again.

Depends what you want to do with the carbs - replace everything or just do the O-rings and gaskets . Gerben is the guy who put me onto the O-rings that work on the petrol tubes between the carbs as nobody seems to be able to get the originals. They are 9mm OD and 5mm ID Vitron and mine are perfectly sealed. Available from all the O-ring stockists. The other O-rings I got out of a metric O-ring set I bought for £8 from a car parts place. The gaskets from the bowls you can either get in refurb kits as the correct shape or get the large O-rings which you have to bend and somehow keep in place when you put the bowls back on - not easy but can be done.

Thanks for all of the replies guys. I've cleaned up the jets, etc  so I think I will go with the o-rings from Gerben.
