Another new owner
« on: April 23, 2017, 09:13:51 PM »
Hello everyone, I've just become a Honda owner for the first time since 1971. The one I always wanted, a CB 750. It joins the other bike I always wanted, an 850 Commando. The Honda needs plenty of work, although I'm hoping there's nothing too major: stuff like new wheels and lots of cleaning / polishing ! Sorry about the lack of pictures but hopefully we can correct that at some point. Ian

wow b750's are really popular these days, these bikes are simple to work on, just really heavy for removing the engine etc. great bikes these and hard as nails. welcome and enjoy. how rusty are the wheels?, surface or rotted out. they are not expensive for replacement rims, or get second hand. plenty on flebay

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. The wheels are serviceable but according to the guys I use for rechroming (Quality Chrome in Hull - first class by the way) probably uneconomic to refinish. Thanks for the tip on replacements; I've discovered the aladdins cave that is David Silvers.
They seem to have genuine Honda and then some oem rims as alternatives. I'm not trying to restore on the cheap but is there are reason to pay more for the Honda ones ?

Pictures will follow, honestly, but I would like to smarten it up first. (Just had a look and found this from the e-bay ad.....hope this works.) More to follow when the old girl has had a bit of TLC.

Thanks again for the welcome.

The only difference between the genuine ones on DSS and the DID ones, is the genuine ones come with a part number  ;)

Welcome ..Modern DID rims and the Honda ones have horrid scripting on the outside and don't have the DID diamond logo .. depends if you want the bike to look standard or just functional with quality rims. I am just outside of Hull but I used Walkinshaws in Coventry to rechrome  my 750K0 from rim. 1st rate job £100 no VAT £10 return shipping. also used Classics & Chrome in Hinkley , again very good job £110 for rim BUT watch him as, if you are not careful to specify, he will almost polish out your DID diamond logo DAMHIKT !
