Take the bike up a farm track, the chrome will all be coated in dust or muck and be evened out, maybe bung a bit of light oil over the offending brightwork and it will appear dull fairly quickly. Failing that if really bothered I have some solid guards where the chrome is pitted but the metal solid I think. It doesn't bother me either way if bits of chrome look better on one bit of the bike to others, time soon blends the two to look right, or did on my bike, I used to try to give it a good wash and wax weekly and it was surprising how the rusty looking stuff brightened up and the bright stuff suffered over winter despite my efforts.
