Hopelessly unreliable these CB750's
« on: August 04, 2017, 07:25:16 PM »
Well after a mere 3.5k miles, she's finally missed a beat 👀, just rode 14 miles, stopped in Ashbourne market place and it stalled, pressed the starter, turning over merrily but not a hint of starting, tried several times, nowt, held the throttle wide open and she fired up, now ridden 10 miles and stopped for a drink, I'm leaving it 20 minutes or so to cool to see if we could be looking at something heat related, I'll check the choke isn't partially stuck on before I start her again as it just occurred to me that it could tie in with the full throttle start, anyway I'll probably have to stick to my uber reliable Italian bikes going forward 😄, fingers crossed for the next start!.

PS an old fella just said "what a lovely bike, is it a Norton?", how wrong can you get!😄

Uber reliable Italian?  Wash you mouth with brake fluid!
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

Brake fluid is too kind, try battery acid  ;D
I heard that bike start up at Crich and she sounded spot on, even after her journey to the TT.

Well she started first touch of the button, so god knows what happened in Ashbourne, good job because I'd got an audience by the time I left , I approached the bike willing it to start and it did so I like it again now 😄, I would as always be the first to vouch for the unflinching reliability of these fine machines!.

Trigger, what you didn't see at Crich was the bike almost cutting out about 2 minutes later, pilot error on that occasion I had forgotten to fully return the choke 😄

Ha, I do sometimes wonder what it would sell for though , I've seen others sell between 2k and 30k, the 30k ones were perfect replicas with Magnesium sliders etc, the 2k ones were total rubbish with the CB750 side panels still fitted etc, so I guess it's somewhere between 2 and 30 grand 😄, (Closer to the 2 than the 30 of course, I'm not delusional)When I had the T250 every time I went out someone tried to buy it, with the Honda nobody does, lots of attention and compliments but no enquiries as to price, so either they think it would be too expensive or in reality they actually think it's crap and wouldn't want it 🙂, when its finished i.e. When it has the 4 into four exhaust/ CR paint job, alloy oil tank , cable rear brake etc etc I'll advertise it just to find out.

I'm looking at an MV Augusta F4 1000S next week Greebo, been my dream bike since they came out, only 2 issues, no space to put it and struggling to justify another bike spend 😄, problems are there to be solved though aren't they!.

Fuel wasn't low but yes could have been a bit of contamination , keep meaning to fit an inline filter I've had in the garage for the last 18months!

I had an F4 back when I had a barn. It was Eamon's bike actually.
It was unreliable, uncomfortable, excruciatingly uncomfortable, expensive to fix. Did I say that it was uncomfortable?

It was also bloody drop-dead gorgeous

# I agree with the "Drop Dead Gorgeous" best looking bike around [I think]
I almost bought one 3 years ago, but what you said in your 2nd line above stopped me buying it, you need to be a contortionist to ride one for any distance & also have deep pockets [full of cash]

I think the last thing Mark needs right now is another uncomfortable bike & an expensive unreliable one at that... ;) but if you do buy one Mark I hope you will enjoy it !

Well I hear you but...., my CBR1000f is so comfortable it's like a feather bed , my 900ss isn't, but it's brilliant fun to ride, so light and torquey, my CR isn't comfortable , isn't brilliant fun to ride really,or light or torquey, but it ticks the nostalgia box, my scrambler is great fun to ride, reasonably comfortable now I've modded it , light and flickable and a hoot on tight twisty lanes, so they all fill particular roles, have good and bad points etc, BUT none of them are as utterly drop dead gorgeous as the MV so I'd better get one 😄, not having one because it's uncomfortable i.e. committed riding position, cramped, is missing the point in as much as you don't buy one of these to be comfortable, you get an MV because it pulls at your heartstrings, is a missile, has pedigree, is exotic and is more beautiful and desirable than Emily Ratajkowski ! 👀, that said I might wait til next year if the one I'm viewing next week isn't spot on.
