Geräusche und Vibrationen
« on: August 19, 2017, 09:12:20 PM »
I've got a bit of noise and vibration on my K75,  more noticeable at a fast tickover.   Thinking it was the alternator rubber bushes,  a common fault, I put some new ones in.
Still the same.
It could be something like shagged water pump bearings but I'm only guessing as I dont know these engines very well.
I went on the Motobrick forum and they're not at all helpful like this forum.  If anyone post a similar request for assistance based on prior knowledge and experience on here there would be replies by the score.

I dont know why they bother running some of the other forums. All some of them want to do is take the p**s and run people down. Their like a bunch of big kids. I have two forums in mind but not going to name them as that would be lowering myself to their standards. Bunch of clowns don't even know that much, probably why they take the p**s to avoid the ignorance being noticed. Rant officially over!!

I really like the Vintage Radio Forum. It run by seemingly old f*rts and a bit draconian and I was a bit put off and 'anti' to start with. However,  it has some  great services like 'transportation request', a 'thank you' to other members section  for acts of kindness plus when you offer anything free or for cheap there is an optional kind of 'deserving cause' selection process for the 'winner' of the item, where you decide after a fixed period who you wish to give the stuff to. It gets rid of the '1st dibs' kind of procedure on forums like this and prevents people from regularly 'hoovering up' anything that's available. Also some deserving people may take a while to see what's going on, on the forum  and may miss out. Plus if you step out of line  or try to promote your eBay sales , the 'mods' are down on you like a ton of bricks (no not the 'Brighton' type mods JamesT  ;D  ). They also offer a service via PayPal for printed copy or downloads of service data etc that funds the site The knowledge base on there is incredible ...they even seem to know tons about motorbikes too.

I don't know anything about the BMW bricks Mike (or any other BMW's actually) but have you checked the generic checks like the engine mounts - just a thought

I don't think it's that, it sounds like a rotary noise rather than a reciprocating noise, but I appreciate your input.  I'll take a look.

This illustrates my point.  I get more sensible suggestions from non BMW owners than the 'experts'

on the k75 bikes, there is a spring which provides tension between two gears on the intermediate shaft. if this spring gets soft, the motor will buzz at lower rpms. this is moderately common, the motor will run happily anyway.  that's the accepted possible cause from bmw america anyway.

Hmm.  I'll see if the sound alters if I apply pressure to the gear pedal.

I would join the BMW Club and take advantage of the Tool Hire scheme, regular Workshops around the country where practical demonstrations of fault diagnosis and their solutions are offered and so on.

I don't any longer own a BMW (and haven't since 2012) but am still a Club member and go to some of the social events on my Kawasaki Versys or one of the older bikes.

There are also many BMW Specialists outside of the dealer network in different parts of the country, the majority of whom will travel to you if required. I have never found requests for information or help with obscure faults (and there do seem to be a few with BMW) to be a problem, using these sources. If you want to let me know which part of the country you are located in, I will send you contact details for one or more of the Specialists that could perhaps help.

Finally, as mentioned earlier there are some obscure faults with the product. My K1200 RS once lost its headlights, however the main beam warning was permanently lit. All other electrical services were unaffected. The problem was the starter motor brushes! Although the starter motor worked fine, apparently the brushes act as an earth for other electrics and they were dirty. A £1,200 fix from the dealer or £300 from the local Specialist (the gearbox had to be removed for access).

Grandmothers and sucking eggs aside, I recommend the long screwdriver as stethoscope trick for nasty engine noises.

Trouble is,  it's the S version with all the extra plastic bits, it'll take me half a day working out how it all comes apart.
