I put a bit of grease onto the throttle tube and the action is ok now. I suspected that the slight hesitation off a closed throttle could be the inlet rubbers leaking so today i temporarily packed the clamps with some rubber strips, a right pain in the ass fiddly, job but it cured the problem. So now i need to buy some new clips which will tighten the rubber inlet rubber properly for a permanent solution. Quite frustrating as the new rubbers are genuine honda and the clips are original in decent condition, but as discussed before on another thread, they simply done clamp the hose effectively, bottoming out before they are tight enough. Dont want to use jubilee clips so will have to find an alternative that looks right.

Just ordered a set of inlet rubber clamps from Z1 parts.... 22 quid including 12 postage. The same items from david silvers are £8.80 or £10.56 inc VAT each !! Thats £84.48 for a set of 8, plus their usual 6 quid postage which they apply regardless of whether you are spending 5 quid or 500.....

I have spent over a grand with them in the last year, as I’m sure many others have too, but I have come to realise that they don’t appreciate your custom. They give nothing away, not even a sticker let alone free shipping. By comparison I buy an air filter and some seals from wemoto and i get a key ring or a notepad... rant over  ;D

We put in a big order with Z1 Parts yesterday and we use them very regularly. Even taking into account postage at around £35.00 and the import duties etc, the whole invoice was quite a few hundred pounds cheaper than DS. The parts will arrive later this week, so worth doing.

I can well believe it.... Its amazing having to buy stuff from overseas to save money, but with suppliers like dick turpin..err...i mean david silvers, its no surprise.... I couldn’t find any other suppliers of similar clamps in the uk although I didn’t spend all day looking.

I doubt whether my order will attract much duty (if any) but even if it does it will still be cheap.

3% duty then add together cost+duty+postage then add 20% Vat and on top of that £11 to the post office for passing on the money from you to HMRC

Even with all that taken into account Bryan, it still works out alot cheaper than DS.

If that is all he ordered, it should not attract duty OR V.A.T. only when the value of the goods exceed £15 does duty apply.
If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!

My new inlet clamps haven’t arrived yet, but it was classic bike night at Squires cafe, the sun was out, so I decided to have a little run, its only 20 min run from my house...still only done 50 miles in total since the rebuild so taking it easy, especially when the intakes are a tad loose... Anyway only got about a mile down the road when she started missfiring a bit... hmmmm what to do, keep going or turn back? the missfire gets a bit worse so turn back, bugger!!. Whip the plugs out and all seem ok except #4 which looks a little sooty.... check the inlets and seem ok.... strange, was running perfect the last time i rode her... Decided to remove the points cover and check the timing, before i do i fire her up with the cover off and hey presto the #1/4 points ar sparking like hell. So off comes the brand new DS condenser and back on goes one of the 40yo? condensers she arrived here wearing... Running perfect again so off I went to Squires... hopefully the new clamps will be here soon and then i can confidently get out for a good long run.

Had a great weekend at the NERDOC rally, arrived home this afternoon and my new intake clips were waiting for me. Unfortunately, although they are a different design to the originals, they too do not put anywhere near enough clamp on the gen Honda intake rubbers. So as they were inexpensive i decided to modify them by shortening by about 5 or 6mm and re-drilling. Will fit them tomorrow but a test fit already looks like they will do the job.

Just rolled over 210 miles tonight and the 2nd of my new condensers packed in... luckily i was half expecting it and had the 40 year old original condenser in my rucksack... so thats 2 condensers gone in 50 & 200 miles, not great... Gonna have to find a more reliable source (the failed units were ds) until i get round to fitting electronic ignition.

Been out on the CB again today... have hardly touched any of the other bikes since she was completed back in july.. just coming up to 600 miles and apart from the dodgy condensers she hasn’t missed a beat. Smooth, comfy, sounds great, handles ok... really loving it. Here she is under the car port after another little run out. Can’t see me ever parting with this one  :D

Congratulations. Loving my 750 too. It is very difficult to find reasons to ride any of the others!

You enjoy riding that...and I can see why :)

As I get older, I start to realise that my reflexes are getting slower, and my ability to handle what a modern bike can provide is diminishing. Speed cameras, average speed limits and idiotic drivers more interestered in updating facebook and checking their e-mails than lkooking where they are going...cyclists who don't think traffic signals or one way streets apply...and pedestrians who assume that they are protected by law when they step into the road, thus obviating any need to look....well...it all adds up.

Makes it time to own something that is more fun at a slower speed, and one whose abilities more reflect my own. The look...the sound....the smell of hot oil ( as long as it's not dripping in a puddle under neath ) and the 'old farts' who will wander up to tell you they owned one just like it back in the day. Priceless.

So it won't nudge 200mph? Yeah. Park it up next to a GSX1000R and I bet it gets more attention.
