Camchain only, all seals, gaskets, camchain guide and tensioner blade comes to around £200, mostly genuine stuff.  I've just done my spare 400, no shells needed, cam chain horseshoe repaired by me with new rivet made on own lathe.  All work carried out by me including painting cases and re zinc plating all bolts.  I can't imagine anyone doing it commercially for £400.

Haha, OK. I have a nasty rattle to investigate so it may take some time. But, I will do everything and change everything I can whilst in there. As him indoors keeps reminding me ' do it right and do it once'  ;D ;D ;D

Video blog, your having a laugh, I'm sure it's not advisable to film murder Paul. Anyway, I will have enough trouble just finding the right size spanners / sockets / hammers etc to worry about filming it !!!. I will start a thread on it though so you can all have a laugh  ;D ;D

Fabulous timing for a couple of 400 rebuilds !

I'm half way through my rebuild with engine stripped and cleaned, but a trip to the hospital has put things on hold for a bit, so a couple of rebuild threads will hopefully get me back into it !

Can I ask which ever one of you gets their head off first to give me a cylinder liner OD dimension please so I can check if mine is still std

Many thanks, and good luck !

I am keen to watch this thread!!

Out of interest would you only strip if there was an issue.. my 76 has done 31k, runs fine, no smoke, no rattles and revs and pulls nicely. I see so many people doing refurbs that strip the engine.

As I have no issues I'm tempted to give the 400 a good service, lick of fresh paint , and a full tune up and get some miles on her... and see how she does. Would most agree this is the best policy?
