Frame number help
« on: October 17, 2017, 07:29:11 PM »
Hi

I have now got my CB550K3 MOT tested and I am trying to register it. The problem I have is the VIN says CB550K-xxxxxx, which is now on the MOT certificate,  the letter I have from Honda USA has a VIN of CB550-xxxxxxx so DVLA refuse to give me a registration.
I just spoke to Honda US to get a new first registration letter with the correct vin, they say the letter correct and the US systems show what is on the letter so won't issue a new one. They say CB550K is a vin from a different country but they don't know where.
Can anyone help, I can't find an email address for Honda UK or Japan.

I really don't know what to do now, any suggestions would be gratefully received. Anyone else bought a US import from DK motorcycles and had the same problem?

Many thanks
Dave

Dave - get a dating certificate from VJMC with the vin as per the bike/mot. DVLA will accept this as proof of age (VJMC are recognised by DVLA) and you'll be fine...

Relatively easy process.

I have just applied for historic tax exemption to the DVLA. My vin plate has the year 1976 clearly stamped on it so a picture of the plate with the year and the vin number was enough to satisfy the DVLA but no pics of the bike were needed but VJMC says you need to send 2

Hi

When I spoke to DVLA, they were insistent on documentary proof for tax exemption. I have now applied to VJMC, so when they have done their thing I'll send in a new registration request and see what they say about tax exemption then. In the original application to DVLA I did enclose an A4 size print of the VIN, the the date of manufacture could clearly be seen.

Yes I sent an A4 size pic of the plate and it was good enough for them, after all the vin is on the logbook and if the year of manufacture is in the same pic then it ought to be!
