In addition to what K2-K6 kindly scanned. I have scanned the 2010 CMM doc 'Then --- Now ' Which includes the '75 MCM original review (below in Dropbox link) :- it's not my fault that the text is distorted near the centre stapling .. Morton's article was like that ..you would have thought they, if anyone,  could have found a decent copy to include!  :(

That press test bike Reg. No.  JGC 606N, which was a Euro spec model, it is definitely  still in existence and I have a pic of it as it was found ...  in a very sorry state ... BUT ...if I posted it on here I may end up like that Jesuit Priest in Gunpowder  :)

Also found a guide to CB250K's from an old CMM but so many glaring errors I can't bring myself to scan it and put it on here ... I  think the journo was a Yam-man !

As you say Ash, some of these tests appear to hold quite a significant bias in how the bikes are judged against a journalist's preference. It's often delivered as a two versus four stroke scenario or from this time specifically,  Japanese against another national bike influence. Sometimes overtly and other times with a snide after taste.

There always seemed to be a huge suspicion of engines that revved,  gearboxes with too many ratios and pathological pursuit of acceptance of wide open throttle in top gear at the slowest road speed (phew)  :) as if changing gear on a bike is any sort of chore.

That last part I think is important to some of the other threads on here,  that desire to let the engine lug along in top gear when you want to accelerate, rather than change down and spin it higher up their rev. It doesn't suit their smaller capacity motors at all and may damage them I feel.

Any Lugging is bad as its low oil pressure at high bearing load

Agree with Nigel and Bryan re lugging. My bike hates it. That's why when riding my CB400/4 hard, it always reminds me of riding a 2 stroke !!!
