Horace says Hi!
« on: November 03, 2017, 03:01:09 PM »
This is Horace; My name is John and Horace (as named by PO of 17 years) is a 1970 CB750 frame & engine No. 1031xxx. I have had it for 10 years and got round to getting it back to standard this year in order to go to the Classic TT as a retirement treat. Through this site found TEC Bike Parts and have just recieved a set of rear shocks hopefully to cure the nodding front end! I have the original seat which I will restore.

I had a CB750 in the early 70s which I used to endlessly strip down for fun which interesed me far more than looking at it as I have very few photos it. I did ride it a lot as well, it was my only form of transport for about 6 years! When the original silencers rotted out I just cut them off and clamped VW Beetle silencer tubes on the ends of the down pipes. It sounded great and passed several MOTs like that! I did eventually fit a 4 into 1 on it.

I do have a question of minor importance but niggling me none the less. What determined what colour the tank badge was? My H reg one had white ones and Harace has black. Both had/have 4 way split throttle cables so to be pedantic, pre K0. I will kick myself to the end of time for selling the H reg one but I moved on to enduro riding so it had to go.
I have a 1964 cb77 as well but am in the process of transferring it to my son so not strictly mine any more. I had a CA95 then a C76 before the CB750.

Welcome !! .. plenty of CB750 1969/70 built on here ! I checked and sadly your old H reg is no longer on DVLA so another UK one potentially lost.

The press bike YLY 70H had black tank badges .. as did mine ( Jan 70 import). Do you know the VIN of your original H reg ? Looks like a Plymouth reg., as I am starting a register.

Thanks all for the welcome.

Do you know the VIN of your original H reg ? Looks like a Plymouth reg., as I am starting a register.

(Attachment Link)

It was a Plymouth registered bike and according to the shop was the first one in the South West. It was an HP reclaim and cost me £400. It had been altered to a cafe racer look with a single seat and huge fiberglass tank and clip-ons but came with all the original bits except the headlight ears. For the life of me I can't remember the VIN. I tried to find out a few years ago but the on file records were very meagre. I sold it to my boss at the time and he went to Spain on it.

Welcome do I spy a steering damper on the front?

Without it there is a ferocious low speed front wheel wobble. From what I have read on here the new shocks should sort it out. They are 10mm shorter than the Konis that are on it.
