Hello from West Sussex
« on: November 06, 2017, 10:45:26 PM »
Hello all.

Bought my first ever bike beginning of October. 1977 K3 550, though she's registered 1980. Frame numbers confirm 1977.

She came with a flat battery, a few rattles, a dented tank, a terrible paint job, a few oil leaks, shot suspension...but what did I care? It was love at first sight, and it was all going to be a breeze to sort out, right...?

She's been with my local mechanic since I got her home. New Hagons front and rear; swapped tank for original that came with her from previous owner; new cam chain; a few other little niggles discovered whilst engine was in bits; several new gaskets...but Im assured nothing major.

Side panels will be matched to the tank asap.

Hoping to get her back this week before I take my test on Friday, and hope to be legally on the road at some point over the weekend.

Very excited!! Looking forward to getting to know her, and you lot better.

Welcome and hope it goes well. Not the usual choice for a first bike bike these days,  what brought that on .

Good luck with your test, have an early night so you're wide awake for it.
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

Thanks all. Yes, don't worry. Early nights all week and constant running over what I need to do in my head in preparation. Fingers crossed!

Yes, unusual choice for first bike I guess. I didn't have a clue what I wanted to get. Just knew I'm not a fan if modern plastic bikes. Did a bit of research...and a bit more research, stumbled across the old Hondas and I was hooked. Was looking at SL350s for quite a while, but realised I needed something bigger for 200 mike round trios to visit family and friends when the weather permits. Can't wait to get the bike back, running as she should and find out why they have such an enthusiastic following 😀

Welcome. I saw the bike on ebay. Looks a genuine UK survivor. That tank that came with it looks A1 and that alone is worth a few £££s. Bike must have been one of the last registered, as stock was getting difficult to shift at that time. I have a 1978 US import, but have found out that sourcing the missing parts and making good the bodging has cost me more.

I'm sure all the Hondas are great in their own special ways.

Some are just more special than the other two that are just a little bit bigger or a little bit smaller... 😉😂
