CB 750 K4 versus CB 750F Forks.....help
« on: November 29, 2017, 10:45:06 PM »
I need some help from you good folks please.

I have had all sorts of problems obtaining new Stanchions and the various internals for my CB750K4. It came with extended Forks - and the Stanchions were scrap. Tried to get new Stanchions but most seem to be 607 long as opposed to the 580 long Stanchions it should have.....also one of the internal 'Pipe Bottom' 51430341701 and one 'Piece, Oil Lock' 51432340000 are also scrap (both are no longer available - according to CMS and DSS).

Anyway, I have managed to buy a set of decent S/H K3 Forks complete, but upon stripping them they are CB750F Forks....in very good condition and the Stanchions are quite good....although there is a bit of pitting but I can clean that up - or have them re-plated and reground - no problem, and the internals are all sound and re-usable.

Now to the crux of the matter......the CB750F 'Fork Case Bottom' (i.e. the Alloy Cast Lower Forks/ Sliders) are about 3cm longer than the K4 part, and the 'Spring, Front Cushion' 51401341700 is also about 3cm longer than the K4 Spring, so my question is if I fit these CB750KF Forks as is, will the Fork Gaitors for the CB750K4 fit or not......or are there other Gaitors available which will fit ?

No doubt somebody in the Forum has made this modification before so all suggestions are welcome.

Other than that, has anybody got a spare 'Pipe Bottom' and a 'Piece Oil Lock' suitable for a CB750K4 they can sell me ?

Thanks in anticipation........ if I can sort this out....I can start my rebuild in earnest (or in Lytham St Annes....Tee Hee).

Is the 3mm longer at the top or the bottom? either way the gaiters should fit as long as the sliders have the groove for them and if the overall length is a bit longer you can have a bit sticking out of the top yoke as long as you are not after perfection

The difference in length is 3cm not 3mm........hence my concern about the fit of the Gaiter......or if another Gaiter (from another model) will fit.

If somebody could advise the length of the Gaiter on a standard CB750K4, that would help.

The CB750F has a rubber cover over the Oil Seals (at the top of the Alloy Cast Lower Forks/ Sliders) but I want to use Gaiters to keep my K4 looking standard.

Cheers.

You will have to find someone with new gaiters because I took these off a 750 that had been on the side stand for a while and the left was more compressed than the right. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]
