Probable Carb issue!!
« on: November 16, 2017, 04:43:31 PM »
Having managed to rebuild and clean my PD46C’s on my 1978 USA bike, get some temporary pods fitted and wired up a new battery I was all ready to fire her up.  New oil etc and the engine turned over a few times without the power.  New fuel in the tank.  Choke on and pressed the starter.  It fired up almost immediately and revved high but wouldn’t idle.  Happy with that until I realized she was only firing on cylinders 3 & 4.  Checked for spark which was good.  Assume therefore there is a fuel flow problem with nos 1 & 2 carbs.  Any ideas as they were all cleaned at the same time??

Well... how about check fuel reaches the floatchambers - that's easily done isn't? Any "extra" inline fuel filters that can hinder fuel flow? BTW, clear tube test on your model is a piece of cake. If level is low, tap floatchambers lightly to check for sticky valve needles. Do carbs 1&2 vent?

Check the fuel tap, I had fuel only coming out of one output.

Stripped it down, but couldn't see what was causing it. As it was leaking anyway I replaced it and was fine after.

Thanks for all the ideas.  Yes, just the one output on the petcock!  Fuel getting into the float chamber so will check the jets as suggested.
