500 colours
« on: December 03, 2017, 06:53:58 PM »
evening guys.
i have been in touch with menno about some work im looking at having done..
my black uk k0....yes its still a project but i am getting around  to it...
i need to know what colour ? ...im sure black wasnt a k0 colour in the book but then again honda said k0 wasnt a uk model either..
i have an old v5 from i think 1977 that says black
i have spoken to the 2nd owner who bought it in 76 seized and he said it was black..
i have seen another early uk k0 only a handfull of vin from mine and that was black too...
so can anyone shed any light on it....
from memory were the k0 colours
gold?
green?
brown?

im pretty certain im on the right tracks but dont want to screw up at the outset

discuss ;)

My k0 tank is plain black but I strongly suspect a previous owner paint job. Sidepannels very thin too compared to every other set of honda cb sidepannels I have seen. Paint very thin on then too. On mine I suspect they are replacements and it has had a paint job. I was offered a cb500 in black that seemed very original yesrs ago, that had pinstriping similar to the other coulours but black both sid4s of the pinstriping. Being a good 12 and more  years ago it was before they were being commonly restored and the patina suggested to me original -it was a barn find by a friend who had a knack of sniffing out bargains. I remember the seller telling me to avoid the 500 in favour of the 550 or 650s not long before that when I was looking at the cb500 sidecar I bought. I don't regret getting the smaller bike and wasn't too sorry to break the cb550 I had for parts and rack up many miles on the 500.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

So... plain black, not exel black...
Black was never delivered to the continent I think...
Never seen one in original paint.

European colours:

I have found that some Honda decals go silver once old. Here is a couple of pics that show a low mileage tank that very rarely sees the light of day, still showing a strong gold and another that is out in all weathers and washed a lot and has faded. I know they are not CB500's but, a good example of a Honda stripe that has faded from gold to silver ish  ;)

There was a black CB500 tank on ebay last week. When I questioned the buyer seller he said it was original paint. Silver stripes. (I thought the top stripe looked a bit wide)
