I'll try to dig my cb500 tank out, I have a feeling that the silver pinstriping is undercoated  with white. Being a very worn paint job you can see each layer where knees have polished the paint off down to steel. The paint is old enough to have gained a texture like leather so original is very likely in my oppinion.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

Jason, Thought the stripes were originally stickers and heavily lacquered over. They are on my K0 as the end is folded under the underside of the tank. Menno paints the stripes I believe.

Gonna dig up this old topic..

I have been messing with my spare tanks ..
1st one leaked and had dents under the crappy paint job
2nd one was on the face of it a mess....and was hammerited gold
It cleaned up a treat and was gold originally underneath ..with no dents and very clean inside
What I'm getting at to clean this old tank back to bare metal I sanded the paint back..
When I got to the pin stripes
The stripes seemed to be applied in a large solid White line first with the black inner stripe over the top to give the effect of 2 white stripes..

Should have taken pics but that was as I found it on a very original paint job under the mess...

Which brings me to another question...
I know a few have refurbished their tank badges..

What white or shade of white did you use.
It looks abit creamy on my badges but that could well be age

Jason. Could you ascertain if the big black panel in the center was a transfer or paint?. I have been having the same conversation on another forum about the CB750/4 tanks about how they were applied originally.

Paint no doubt about it...
I'm guessing the black was painted the colour painted...
Big white stripe to cover the joint...then a small black painted stripe just off centre of the white stripe to give the effect of a larger and smaller white pin stipes...

All DA'd off so could see the application as I worked down the layers ...
Wish I thought about pics

I can verify my cb500/4 tank has the lines painted on, it's easy to see as its worn through to the bare metal by my knees both sides. It also shows the various layers used for what was probably the candy green once upon a time but had gone more like green leather....
