Is my bike a 500 or 550?
« on: December 30, 2017, 08:05:57 AM »
I know this sounds daft but my bike has 550 frame and exhaust but a 500 four motor and badges. It was hardly used when I bought it ten years ago and while it might be a bitsa it looks like it has always been like this rather than been bodged by previous owner. Someone told me it was an Italian import so don’t know if they made a few like this for other markets? Anyway it’s a great bike and I’ve had lots of fun but I’m just curious...Can anyone enlighten me? Will post pics when I can

This bike was never sold in the UK, basically it is a 550 bottom end with 500 barrels and pistons. Don't know too much about these bikes from the European market but, I recall that other members have them.

It's a CB500K3. This model was exported to some countries on the European continent. Around 4200 of them were ever assembled. In case you want to know more about the differences, the Honda Parts List that covers both the CB500K3 and CB550K3 is here: http://www.honda4fun.com/pdf_parts_list/pdf_spac500-550/CB500-550_K3-K4.pdf

I have a Cb500k3 as well
They are the runt in the 500 /550 family and are exactly
Like the 550 k3  but a 500
These bikes are sweet but they run lean on Pd carbs and
don't like after market 4 into 1's without changing the jetting.

It has a 500 top end on a 550 bottom end?? I thought the two wouldn't fit together!

With a new seat cover that bike will be really nice

Seat covers next but you can admire the lovely duck tape repair for the time being. Where is good to get seat covers from? David Silver?

500 top will fit 550 bottom end but 550 top may not fit 500 bottom depends on year of case
