Fork Question
« on: January 01, 2018, 05:37:31 PM »
Currently renovating a 1983 Cb125tdc and I’m in the process of rebuilding the forks.
Noticed today that one of the lower legs has a back up ring which sits underneath the fork seal but the other one is missing. So my question is what is the purpose of this ring and is it essential to have it since there wasn’t one fitted previously.

According to the parts list on CMS, it's called "RING, BACK UP" and there should be one on each fork leg. Honda didn't fit something without a reason, play safe and get a new one where it's missing, CMS give the part number as 51412 446 003, and they are 5 euros each. Dave Silver hasn't got them in stock, but can get them to order, so chances are your local Honda dealer can get it for you, which saves postage!
If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!

Thanks Hairygit I’ll pay the dealer a visit this week, still wondering what their purpose is, all I can think of is it acts as a spacer.
