CB750 K0 - she may have to go
« on: January 27, 2018, 04:35:19 PM »
Decisions decisions...

Toying with the idea of letting my Candy Blue Green Diecast K0 go. With a few K0 and other restorations on the go I need the funds sadly.

This is a totally original one previous owner bike. I doubt I'll ever find another. Only non-original parts are the handlebar clamp bolts and tyres.

Last ran by me three years ago when I first imported her - then mothballed since.

Tell me am I mad?

James

Looks great, judging by the photo’s it doesn’t need a restoration, just cleaning and riding. I wouldn’t want to sell it but i see your dilemma..... especially as you have other examples of the same model in your collection.... would it take much to recommission?

Tricky one - heart/head fighting one another. But as you say, I'm lucky to have several others so it probably should go.

As you say just needs a good clean really.

In terms of re-commissioning I would do the following:

Oil/filter
Air filter
Timing / tappets
Cam chain adjustment
New plugs
Fork seals / oil (gaitors are fine)
Front caliper rebuild and flush master cylinder/possibly new m/cc kit
New battery
Clean/flush the tank
Clean the carbs

I´d say 12k is a bargain.

Great survivor

I'm no expert on these matters, as we've discussed and I don't know the condition of the 1969 restored model but if value is relevant, I would keep this bike, as originality and patina have become the 'new religion' in the marketplace. I have a friend who collects classic Triumphs and his most treasured items are now the models in 'original' condition, which seems strange, as he's put no effort into them compared with his 'restored' bikes. For £12K I think it's a bargain.

Yes, totally agree.
The more restorred K0´s there are, the more worth those survivors will be become.

And beeing a one owner bike is priceless for its own. I assume you did´nt register her.

cheers, Uli

Interresting, although being a 25.xxx, she still has the recessed ignition switch.
cheers, Uli

Hello James, The CL450 is nice and it may be a personal favourite of yours but it never set the world on fire or coined an expression like 'Superbike'.  I have been giving this some thought and apart from the fact that I need to get out more, Sgt Pinback is correct about restored early bikes. They are becoming more common but un-restored, original, one owner bikes are rare and will stay that way. Regardless of value, it's special and a bit of a treasure. It has to be a personal decision but it's the last thing that I'd sell.
