Honda often raided existing parts bins, and that bike was no exception ;D
Most vehicle manufactures have always done this and it still happens on a regular basis today. Land Rover are / were no exception. They used to have a 1/2 model year, ie 2011 1/2, where any bits found in a cupboard were used up during the build, regardless of which Marque / Model the parts came from originally, if it fitted, they used it.

Those "impossible to source" pointy indicator lenses, how many do you want, and how much will you pay for them??? Truth is, they are what was fitted to millions of Honda C57/70/90 step thru/ chicken chasers from 1965ish through to 1982! Honda often raided existing parts bins, and that bike was no exception ;D

Those Honda 50 indicator lens and oval rear lamp were fitted to comply with UK regs when prepped for sale to Lord Denbigh for UK road use. he also requested the flat bars to be fitted and that's how Chris came by the M/Cyl... the guy at Honda who prepped the bike, kept the old M/Cyl in his garage for yonks.

The oval rear light was an early C50/70/90 part as well, and I'd bet that the generator coils in that stepped alternator cover were CB 450, I remember seeing a snatched photo of a prototype being tested in Japan with a CB 450 tank on it, and magneto ignition. The one coming up for sale is more a pre production model rather than a prototype.

Yes, taxi for Mr World indeed.

I notice it has the original non production pointy indicator lenses still, VW's Candy blue green one had lost those. Easier to replace the mudguard (buy James' chopper!) and shocks than ever source a set of those, I'm guessing.

This page on the prototypes from the sandcast site has comments from Chris regarding the master cylinder and more information: http://cb750sandcastonly.com/latepreproduction01.htm
That's a good write up in the link you posted Dave. Tells us all the important things.

Page 2 already, its not like this bike is causing much interest on here ;)

Well I live and learn about the indicators.

Whether the bike gets bought by V World, D Silver (now that could be an interesting bidding battle to watch) or anyone else, its going to be someone with deep pockets.

As there was no existing Honda (or anything else AFAIK) with a disk brake (so noone going to pop up and say its an ordinary production part off a Honda Cxxxx), I reckon Chris could name his price for that master cylinder, they're not going to find one anywhere else.

Mind you after my faux pas with the indicators, cue someone posting a copy of the 1969 AP Lockheed Racing catalogue or similar. :)

I reckon Chris will have had 1st dibs on it as he was very close friend of Dave  the owner for decades but it it must be awkward dealing with someones widow in such circumstances and who would know what it's worth and what to offer? To me the seat, if original, would be one of the most difficult parts to repro correctly.  The front guard is probably the same as the production sandcasts.

Sure someone's looked, First UK registration Sept 69. Untaxed since July 77.
Its marked as a lowish £35k to £40k. John Lennon's bike might make that.

only just reading this i did not realize Dave had past away ,very sad news indeed, he was a great little guy. a right guru on honda stuff i last talked to him in malvern a few years ago im sure there are some of his vjmc mates will be looking out for his widows best interest
vic world is well aware of this bike and told me he has seen it in the flesh he remarked on a lot of hand made parts like the footrests if the interest in this bike goes virral like i think it will ,Im sure it will go for a princely sum and go abroad as others have said i would like to see it kept in U.K. but i cant see that happening

Grr! Now I'll never get it for £35k.  :'(

One day I'll find the green one in the local classifieds, cheap as a non runner.

I believe DS was onto it months ago Dave  ;)  You can bet your life any Honda's up for grabs he's on to and this guy had 200.

I really am going to the auction, if I can, just to see a bit of history I might never get the chance to see again. And John Lennon's monkey bike!

I might even put the starting bid in, what do you think, £500 as it needs some work? Then I can say I was once in the running for it :)

There's a few interesting bikes, that Guzzi's nice, and is that the Henry Cole Phil Read Replica, or another one?

I'm guessing you also get the chance to see round the museum, if you buy a ticket, probably. Maybe they'll bid, though this particular bike didn't do the UK industry any favours (though they managed to f*%k that up for themselves).
