Just wondered, sent all my paperwork off a week ago for my US import.

They had absolutely every bit of info they asked for.

I know its only been a week but i'm impatient  :P

Depends on the time of year - but normally 7-10 working days in my recent experience...

When waiting for mine my insurance company said I could ride mine as long as it was to the MOT and not take the piss whilst waiting.
I covered about 100miles and the MOT station is just over 6 miles away.  ;D

Mine was about a week and half last year...and then out to get the actual number plate.
I rode mine to the MoT but was not confident about riding with no plate, so I stuck the US plate on. Anybody know what the policy is?

As I see it you can ride / drive an unregistered vehicle to an MOT station so long as you satisfy the following; be insured (on the VIN), have an appointment with the tester, be able to prove ownership (export documents/purchase documents/drivers license), the vehicle must not be obviously un-roadworthy i.e. bald tyres, failing lights etc - although you can also drive it to a garage for remedial work to enable an MOT if it needed it.... Trouble is you wont find any clear advice anywhere, not even from the DVLA. Some folk advise using trade plates but that would be a deliberate offence unless they are registered to you... others advise trailering the bike which it the easy option if you have a trailer... You will get all kinds of advise about how far you can take it etc.. there are no rules as long as you aren't taking the piss... I purchased a Japanese import car recently and collected it from Newcastle port and drove it back home for an MOT with no reg number.... I satisfied all of the above but wasn't pulled over to put it to the test legally.... As I say its a grey area but what law would you be breaking?.
