Milton Keynes Newbie 400/4
« on: April 21, 2018, 12:59:33 PM »
Hi All,

Have been lurking around for a while and using all of the knowledge on the site to get my bike running and doing a light resto. Have had a few modern bikes but much prefer older bikes to ride and work on. My 1976 cb400f is 10 years older than me (probably in better condition as well!)/

When I purchased the bike it was working but in rough condition. Worked out after a ride I only had one cyclinder. After removing the head I found the below! as well as broken rings on 1 and 4 pistons.

Fortunately my father has a couple of 400/4 as some parts so was able to get a standard piston and order new rings. Have re painted and tidy up quite alot if parts. Also have replaced a lot of the bolts with stainless which has required a lot of cutting down on the lathe due the number of different sizes.

Now we finally have some sunshine have managed to get out and loving throwing the little bike about.

Thinking about changing the motad exhaust to either marving or delkevic and doing some minor customisation (nothing that cant be reversed) such as shortening front fender if i can find a cheap tatty donor.

Great to have you on board .. love it when we get new younger members on here.
So many 400/4 survivors out there ...people were so fond of them they probably couldn't bear to part with then so bunged them in sheds, garages, barns etc and many seem to have survived several house moves.

Welcome to the 400four forum.   Good of you to post the photo.   I bet you're enjoying riding it on lovely sunny days like today.
Where's that 10mm socket got to?
