Carb question
« on: March 13, 2018, 12:01:36 AM »
I'm about to put my carbs back together after rebuild. There are 2 small parts, spectacle shape in thin sheet metal that sit between the carbs. They're listed as part of the assemblies 95 Holder set A and 96 Holder set B.
Mine are broken, cracked through in the thin bit in the middle. They are thin and flexible and don't seem to do anything. The carb operation seems perfectly ok without them.
I can make a new pair, but do I actually need them?

Do these thin plates actually serve any purpose? The carbs are linked together by other links and shafts.  ???

If they served no purpose Keihin wouldn't have put them there. Somewhere on here is an in depth conversation about them, I think it was Lobo when he was refurbing his carbs.

The links to each pair of carbs are sprung loaded to allow adjustment of the individual slides - I would assume the metal plates you mention are there to damp any differential movement between #1 & #2 and between #3 & #3 during normal operation.

I assumed they were to stop the link pivoting around on the ball joint and fouling on other carb parts, one of mine was broke when I bought it 34 years ago....   its still the same with no issues.

Cheers. That makes sense. I may or may not put new ones on. 🔧

Tom is correct.   They're there to keep the linkages parallel.
Where's that 10mm socket got to?
