Ah this is it you see. I don't fully understand the intricacies of the back light thing. I know some CB750k,s had the small rounder tail light same as my 67 CD175 sloper. Some have the standard squarer ubiquitous Honda tail light. Then there are those Horrendous huge US jobbies. But I don't know which has which. Did all models in the US have the big lights? Or was that only required in certain states?
I'm thinking this could be a bit of a minefield.
I have access to a pile of brackets which have come off US bikes. So I think I will have to go & do some measuring. As they mostly look the same but the bolt holes for the tail light
Are slightly differently spaced.

My General Export model came with a back light the size of a lunchbox, probably the same as the US models.

As it rubbed on the carrier I swapped it for a new 500 one I got on eBay.

The holes don’t quite line up by a couple of mm, but as it’s rubber mounted you need to look very closely to notice.

The 500 light isn’t right for the model, but I have kept the original, and it looks right.

The US 750k1 rear light is approximately 5" wide x 3 1/2" tall
My US 550 is the same as the US750k2 onwards and that is 7" wide x 4" tall

The First one listed is the same as the one on my 67 CD175.
Which would be fine.
The second one is the style I'm after.
The third one.  Is the one I'm avoiding at all costs!
As for the tail light mounting hole spacings.  The difference is so small. Makes me wonder why the botherd.
Thanks again. Your input is appreciated.
Sean.

They are more or less a univereal fitting ( most 7inch units are the same with very, very few exceptions) so will fit with no mods to bike or car headlight shells.

The Z and H 180 units were common to both cars and bikes when originally fitted as higher spec modifications, you'd see them in Mk2 rally escorts,  for example.

Rim tabs and orientation are the same.

If you're not specifically after a Cibie,  then the slightly later Honda fitted "Stanley H4" marked, flat lens glass headlights have a really good beam pattern. They've an almost "searchlight" like main beam that's particularly impressive which I've fitted to rally cars before as they are so good,  especially as a pair.

Bulbs,  I feel the "Phillips white vision xenon effect" with a colour temp of 4300k are the best I can find to use currently. They are nearer the current headlights in that they are blue er, but mostly give the best dip beam performance without going to higher wattage.

Nigel.
Thanks Nigel, great information!
