Rear wheel lock washer
« on: April 05, 2018, 12:43:20 PM »
Hi everyone,

Does anyone know what I could replace the stock lock washers on the rear wheel with? Maybe I'm being picky but they look like they need a change.

Cheers

Yeah they're the ones.

Sorry I should have been more specific

They are always a bit tatty after a while but, if they are doing the job, leave them alone. New ones are about a couple of quid each. Later Hondas did not even use them, they just superseded the nuts to a flange type.

What's the view of the MOT testers here to delta's suggestion on Loctite, As this is not an obvious indication.
As said later models dropped the lock washers on the rear sprocket and the front disc, but that was using flanged nuts and an observable change.

From memory if a lock washer is there it must be used correctly and complete, if not there the nut must be there and not be visibly loose---you are not allowed any tools to check tightness, only fingers. Split pins or "R" clips are a different matter, i think the wording is if possible to be fitted then must be

I would leave them as is however I had to take them off anyway so I'm guessing bending them back wouldn't be ideal.

Could I get away with serated flanged nuts then like the later hondas? Or would toothed lock washers be better

Cheers
