Out and about all over the place today on the CB550. Saw this stunning Vincent with a Watsonian side car, both in absolutely stunning condition.  What I would like to know is why does it have 2 rear sprockets, one either side of the wheel ?. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

guessing different sizes, take the sidecar off,,swop the wheel around for solo gearing.

those bikes were way ahead of their times .
very well thought out

Called in at Squires on the way home, it looked like the CBX1000 owners were having a meet up. A few others I hadn't seen there before as well.

Moorey, great photo of the Laverda 'sidestand'. As any Laverda owner will tell you, great engineered bikes let down by the self collapsing tubular side stands! I modified mine by using a cast sidestand from a ZZR1300. I believe Ducati's suffer a similar problem with sidestands that flip up on their own accord.

A cunning ploy by Ducati to sell panels and mirrors. They have nearly caught me out a time or two ;D

Exactly John, for sidecar use to lower the gearing.
My father was a personal friend of the Vincent engineering director who raced those bikes with a chair, so the interest in sidecar use was well supported at the factory. Interestingly he once showed a Honda starter sprag clutch to dad as he was fascinated by the simplicity and effectiveness of the engineering in that component and it amazed him they'd come up with such a brilliant solution.
They (The Vincent) where very advanced with cantilever rear suspension and virtually no frame,  just all structural parts bolted to the engine.

Put another 120 miles on the 400 on the annual VMCC Seaside Run.  The was a wide variety of bikes; mostly British bikes, with a few wop and Hun bikes and a fair few Jap bikes.  As the name of the run suggests, we got to see a lot of the Bristol Channel.
