I have a full system 4 into 2. Not too expensive I think, need to check what I paid. Also not sure if 500 or 550, might need brackets as footpegs hangers go in different places and center stand stop might not meet the stand, resulting in it hitting the chain.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

i only need the downpipes, and they need to be really cheap as they are for this project of mine which may or may not work. i save my money for the 750s!

i'm not being a skinflint. i just want to spend as little as possible at this point until the engine is stripped and hopefully rebuildable. if it isnt, then the project is dead in the water. i only need the pipes to see where the new frame tubes will run.

The shipping will be a fair lump by itself, might be as well to give the engine a once over first. Not sure about other 4 into 2 systems but the one I have the downpipes are separate and the collector is part of the silencer and that bit is what generally rots. If you just want downpipes without a collector then maybe 4 into 4 downpipes off a rotted system might do it and be easier to get cheap , maybe.

yes, maybe youre right. i'm still not sure whether i need to run downtubes under the engine yet but i would need pipes to check for clearance. or i might have to go for a 4-1.

For layout work you can pipe bend 15mm copper plumbing tube to shape. Make up some wooden bungs to tap into exhaust ports with a hole to locate the copper, then use foam pipe lagging to give you the overall diameter.

You can make up any pattern you want to give a mockup.

Also,  very worthwhile in my view,  for an old/dirty/crusty engine you can steam clean it prior to dismantling. This is NOT pressure washing!  but leaves it really clean prior to work so you don't transfer a load of crap onto the internals. While it's hot from that,  it's a good chance to undo external fasteners as well.

HGV prep for inspection usually run a steam cleaner if you are in need  ;)

Where abouts are you? I have a few sets of different styles of cb500 and cb550 exhausts that could be trail fitted to give an idea of how they line up.

i'm in carmarthen. that's a very kind offer and i would be happy to come and collect them from you.  i'm currently working on the rear engine mounts and looking for a frame builder to make some downtubes. i would prefer to get all the frame welding done before stripping the engine as it wouldnt then be necessary to protect any new paint or parts.

I also have a Marshall 4 into 1 with Deeptone silencer that came off of my CB550. You're more than welcome to it if its of any use for the price of the postage.

To have Pete. They are only taking up space and I now have a different system on my CB550 so I will never use it again.
