CB550 Centre stand stop?
« on: May 04, 2018, 10:09:07 PM »
Just removed my ropey 4 into 2 exhaust, no idea what make.

Fitted my Motad 4 into 1, the bracket on the Motad stops the center stand but only just.
The very edge on the bracket just stops the very edge of the stand foot and the stand foot the other side is probably only 10mm from the chain.

I have made the clearance bigger for now by fitting a bolt facing the ground in a hole in the bracket so the stand hits the bolt. Does the job but looks a bit naff.

My question is, when these bikes were new, what was there to stop the center stand?

My old exhaust sat lower than the Motad so it was just the silencer stopping the stand.

The original silencer had a rubber bung to stop the stand.

The original exhaust had a rubber on the bottom of the pipes to cushion the centre stand, the motad bracket should have a hole in it, that a big door stop rubber goes to act as a stop  ;)

That's what I was thinking of using or the rubber screw in foot off the washing machine.
I may try the washing machine foot next time the missus is out  :D

Motad supplied slightly different brackets for the earlier 500s to the later 500/550s. Both are pretty useless. Very flimsy and bent when the centre stand hit it. I doubled up the material and screwed a bit of box section in the angle on one of my 500s and I think I used a modified seat bung as the stop.

On the 550F I simply made an adaptor to hang the Motad from the existing bracket and thus retained the original stop.
