CB750F1 Brake caliper binding with new pads

I have a CB750 F1 restored to rolling frame stage , my third F1 restoration, but slowing down a bit as has been in progress for a while 

Decided I should do something with it and has been on my bike lift for too long.

Fitted a restored front caliper new lines and DS repro, piston, MC and pads, but it binds with adjuster slack and arm moves freely.

Has anyone else encounted problem?

Will have to sand down the pads if no other option, but without removing piston which I think is the culprit, can't see any other option.

Yep, I had the same problem on my CB750 F1 front brake caliper and had to sand down new EBC brake pads to fit.

Is the inside edge of the caliper body spotlessly clean? If there is any corrosion/white powdery deposits in there it wont help the situation. When you mention sanding the pads, try sanding around the circumference of the steel backing part or the pad, often there is too much paint on there which can cause binding. Best way to check is to use a G cramp to force the piston back into the caliper, then see if the pad drops in easily, if it doesn't, try sanding a little more off the outside circumference of the pad until it does. When it does, apply a thin film of copperslip to the circumference (making sure to keep it off the pad material) then try it.

I had similar problem with my F!, hairy solved it as pad was sticking. good clean, light sand round edges, small amount of copper-slip. and now working fine!

Thanks for suggestions.

It has a new piston and seal and pad free in housing.

Probably the piston is slightly longer, so will sand down pads to provide a bit of clearance.
