Tax and MOT 400/4

  I tend to think the system that prints out reminders is not programmed to alter the printing for the new regs .

 I suggest you re-new online ,and see what happens ,

it worked OK for my RD last month

It renews fine, (because I have a valid MOT for 6 weeks) and tax goes through, but it looks like you only get the yes/no bit to answer if your MOT has already run out at the point of re-taxing. So therefore have not declared it MOT free.

Yes, it only asks the question if there is no MOT on bike at the time of Taxing. If it is MOT'd, it is irrelevant so it doesn't trigger the question.

I asked the DVLA whether a bike that was re-taxed with the MOT valid at that time then needed a declaration when the MOT expired. The answer was that there was no requirement (or provision) to allow completion of the declaration until the next time that the vehicle in question is taxed.

The bike affected is already in the historic class for road tax however, so I have no idea whether this affects matters and recommend that anyone taking this route checks with the DVLA directly, rather than relying on my second - hand information!

Many thanks Flatfour for that nugget of info, I have the same dilemma with my Mini which is taxed as Historic but the mot runs out in July.  I couldn’t find out if I had to do the declaration as soon as the mot ran out.  I didn’t dare ring DVLA as I’m 70 next birthday and not sure I would live long enough to actually speak to someone
