750k1 frame?
« on: May 21, 2018, 01:40:07 PM »
Has anyone come across this??
I have stripped down my K1 frame ready for paint.
But rhe Bridge over the rear of the frame is pissed.
Looking from the rear. The bridge is about 10mm higher on the left.
This can only be a manufacturing fault.
As the frame rails are straight & measure the same distance apart as my straight F1 frame.
Has anyone noticed any anomalies like this?
Sean.

Early frames were aweful especially the welding

10mm is excessive, maybe a rear end shunt in its past life.

Everything else is straight & true. So I doubt its due to accident damage.
But going by the state of the dreadful welding. I think its down to poor manufacturing.
Let's face it. If quality control would pass that welding. They would pass anything.

The welding is atrocious on both my K1's so much so I didn't even notice the rear end had been chopped off one of them and re welded on after what I can only presume was a failed attempt of a cafĂ© racer at some point in its life.
Yet another job on the too do list.  ::)

We used to joke that the welding was done by a little old lady with knitting needles, after a couple of 750's the first thing I did to my new K2 was to rub down and paint all the welds with anti rust primer followed by Humbrol gloss black as they went rusty on my other bikes.

Someone once asked me.
What is the best method of replicating the factory finish on
Yamaha Rd frames.
I said use no primer, a quick blast of black. Then throw a handful of sand at before it dries.
Then another wiff of paint to finish. Perfect!
