750 K4 tank strip
« on: May 24, 2018, 10:40:02 AM »
Hi All, have just bought the above, the tan is nos and has been painted by dreamachine, thats all good, but the metail strip on the bottom is on the tank but does not bend round to fit properly at the seat end, I'm not sure how to tackle getting a bend in it or buying another strip pre bent? and if so anyone know where I could get one? also should the strip only be held on by the tabs or glue as well, any answers greatly appreciated

There only held by the tabs and aren't a perfect fit and stop a little short from the seat so no bends at that end.

Mick knows his 750’s no doubt, but if you're looking for proper NOS originality then they are actually slightly bent / profiled in as they approach the tank. The DSS replica items aren't correctly profiled in this area as per NOS. So you’ll need to apply some heat and mould them yourself.

See pic below from my 2000 mile K3..

Just had a proper look at mine and I had forgotten the tank tapered in by the seat. I remember now one bike has pattern trim and the other Genuine. There doesn't seem to be a lot between them.
What I have just noticed is mine have discoloured a bit on the leading edge were the rain and road dirt has got in.

Thank you gentlemen. most helpful, looks like some heat and a gentle bend on the cards then, mine stick out about half an inch and look terrible :(

Looks like I'm gonna have to glue mine. As some idiot in the past cut the tabs off the tank.
Sean.
