Gunson Colortune result
« on: May 31, 2018, 05:51:21 PM »
Good day,
I have purchased a Gunson Colortune to get the carbs right on my K2.
Cylinders 2, 3 and 4 show a nice blue spark;
the problem is with cylinder 1.
The only way to see it turning towards blue is to unscrew the air/fuel mix screw completely and that is at idle only.
Whats your opinion?

Thanks

Float too high or blocked/restricted air passageway

If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!

Cleaned all carbs and check the floats (all at 26mm) no result.
All carbs need to be screwed out to almost all out to achieve a blue explosion.
I reckon it is because I have lifted the needle so it needs more air to balance the extra fuel going through?
Thanks

I can't remember if you're running modified air filter or standard type on your bike. It'll impact what you are now trying to do, so you need to post setup as it currently exists, plus if you've got any non standard jets fitted to help in advising you.

Using the Colourtune you're really only setting the mixture at idle and the needle and throttle slide will be having little or no effect at idle.

You're really only dealing with the idle circuit and mixture adjustment screw.

The bike mounts aftermarket air filter pods,
changing the main jets has made very little impact but the only issue (also after dropping the pin) is still number one carb.
Any other suggestions?

Thanks a lot

Still no result on carb 1
The points are set,
the timing spot on,
carb synced,
Not sure if any of these effect but.. still cant see the blue light on 1.
Any idea on where to start.
The other carbs have a decent blue spark.
Thanks.

Hi El_burro,

Just asking a load of general questions here, so people get a better idea of your problem,
Starting at the beginning, in case I missed something, You got the Gunson  I guess because you have a problem you could not resolve?  and how did this problem show itself 'before' you could see the plug colour on #1
What colour are you seeing on # 1  , Orange ?
Regarding plug colour, do you have 3 plugs that look normal burn and one sooted up?
Just double checking, when you say carbs synced, I guess you do mean with gauges and not just bench synced ?  Are you bench syncing first? I guess so.
With the idle jets out one turn, do they gauge sync up ok or does the engine not idle smoothly ?
So are you saying you have raised the needles, was that to richen up because of the pod type filters?
You changed the main jets?  increased them in size or just replaced them?
What brass bits in the carbs now are still standard Honda and what are from a Chinese carb rebuild kit?
Do you set all the air screws to the default 1 out positions, then sync the carbs with then check with the colour tune and it's not blue on #1 ?

Are you saying you have to turn out 2 -3 -4 air screws further than 1.25 turns to get the blue colour?  Is this after you have synced them you alter the air screws again?  which is leaning it up, so is the Gunson colour very orange before you start then?   Where are the needle positions now, what size jets are you running in there?
Where is your carb vent tube located?
