non upgraded chain should be a little lose, did you have a problem getting the sprocket back on the cam with the chain on ?
Your rocker cover gasket is upside down by the way, will leak if you don't turn it over  ;)

Hello, thanks for the tip (?) about the gasket, yes getting the sprocket on the cam was a push,

  Oddly enough, I turned the engine over again a couple of times to check, and the chain has loosened off to where it should be! Could the chain have seated onto the tensioner roller or something?

The sprocket should go on with ease. As I said, a mismatch of head and barrels can give you problems .
