Metal Shavings
« on: June 02, 2018, 04:43:55 PM »
Hi

I took the sump off today so I could final remove the engine from the frame. I found these little buggers in the oil pick u filter. Does this mean a full engine rebuild?

Looks like alloy, which is usually piston/s, or possibly the primary chain lashing about cutting into casings. :o

If it were me, I would definitely want to investigate further. But as you are taking the engine out of the frame anyway, you're half way there. Just don't ignore those bits, something alloy is not where Mr Honda intended it to be.

It could be the camchain shaving lumps off the camchain tunnel.   What does the engine sound like?
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

I never had it running, it turned over fine and it tried to start.

I'm with Mike on this, sounds like a seized horseshoe and tensioner allowing the cam chain to go slack and shave its way through the casting. When you take the barrels off you'll see the damage to the rear of the cam chain tunnel.
