Chain rubbing against stand
« on: June 05, 2018, 07:32:19 PM »
Hi all,

I took my cb500 out for the first time, and i noticed a noise coming from the chain rubbing against the stand. It comes very far up and I can't see what is supposed to stop it from doing so. Any ideas?

Cheers

on my CB500,the lower left exhaust has a stand bump stop,

you will need to fit a stop,to prevent the stand rubbing the chain.

The bracket is very soft, it starts to bend after it’s been clumped by the centre stand after a few times.
I remade mine with a lump of stainless.

You will need to put something in as a stop, without it you can basically cut the stand in half eventually that's if you are lucky, if not it might foul the chain and cause a mishap. On my bikes I just booted an old bit of 20x20mm angle iron on, looked horrid but you don't see it if your riding. I had a sidecar fitted so never noticed the chain sawing it's way through the stand, being as it was so heavy you never moved it without the engine running. It got well past halfway through the stand before I spotted it.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock
