1970 (01/70) CB750 restoration
« on: June 09, 2018, 10:13:07 AM »
Thought I’d start this thread to document my latest K0 restoration...

The start...photo was taken back in 2016. Note the incorrect front end...correct K0 forks and single cut fender came with the bike and were temporarily re-fitted in late 2016.

Engine out of the frame and off to Graham for a rebuild (this was early last year).

Checking the condition of the frame prior to blasting / zinc priming.

Completed engine after lots of hard work (Graham’s hard work, not mine). The man is a legend.

Engine ready to go back in the frame, which has been stripped, zinc etch primed, flatted, 3 coats of satin, satin laquer finish (all black painted cycle parts have received the same treatment).

Probably a bit OTT if I’m honest as they were never this good from the factory.

Rebuilt forks back on. Refurbished swingarm refitted with Yamiya rear shocks.

New Honda rear fender (3 hole) fitted with refurbished original inner fender. As with the front fender I’ve opted for New Honda parts here rather than rechromed originals.

All electrics cleaned, checked, refitted. Genuine Stanley indicators.

I’m using a Yamiya CB Green body set for this one (bike was originally CB green).

Lots of original parts re-zinced. Some fasteners missing so have used a Yamiya No. ‘8’ bolt kit where necessary.

NOS Honda bars with new switch gear.

Ignore the ‘heath robinson’ jacking arrangement - it’s much more stable than it looks..(honest).

Plated parts ready to fit.

Both wheels fully stripped, rebuilt with new bearings, hubs polished/inners painted (my preference). Note front wheel bearings hadn’t been replaced in this photo (old seal and chewed up bearing retainer clearly visible).

Back on her feet with new shoes on..(Conti RB2/K112).

All electrics wired and working.

Rear light fitted.

Original master cylinder stripped, painted, rebuilt with Honda m/c kit.

Using a Genuine Honda front fender (should have a single-cut front fender but small compromise here as even a re-chromed original wouldn’t quite hit the mark).

New oil lines from Germany rebuilt to OEM braided finish.

Original side panel emblems refurbished, ‘grilles’ repainted and assembled onto Yamiya covers. Fit of the side panel emblems is so much better with original compared to reproduction items.

Yamiya short rear chain guard fitted.

The CB-green colour is amazing IMHO.

Hi ...

How did you refurb the inner fender? I gave up and bought a new one.

Why wouldn’t a rechromed single cut fender be adequate ?
cheers, Uli

Wet/dry and then polishing compound Uli. My chrome supplier is pretty good, but doesn’t like doing fenders and it was easier/cheaper and a better finish to use a new Honda part.
