Oil feed pipes
« on: June 24, 2018, 12:16:24 PM »
Hi, is it common for these to fail..? I have a 74 CB750 from the USA almost ready to fire up but there is a slow oil leak which appears to be coming from the oil feed line... the upper joint seems dry but the pipe is soaked in oil. Some of the rubbers on the bike have been hardened and perished and i wonder if the oil lines have gone the same way.

It is certainly possible, but not a common thing with UK bikes, but the hotter drier US climate may cause faster degradation of rubber parts.

Hmmm... thanks for the input guys. I was going to order a pair as i thought if one has failed the other wont be far behind. Maybe i should just order the one and risk two lots of postage 😄. I’ve spend hundreds with DS up to press but they dont offer any savings on postage or anything do they!

Rob - there's a seller in Germany who will re-hose your existing hoses if you send them to him - roughly 50% of the cost of the DSS parts. I’ll try and dig out his details later for you. I use them on my restorations and they look OE Honda in terms of finish..

That would be great James, thanks... I am currently rushing to try and have her up and running in time for the festival of 1000 bikes at Mallory on 7th July. The DS pipe is in stock so I may just order it for speed. But the re-hosing sounds good for the original pipe at a later date.

Well, I’ve just been out to the garage and made a rather embarrassing discovery, i assembled one of the oil pipes onto the tank without the sealing washer 🙄. Hopefully a cheap and easy fix... I’ll check later this eve...

Hi Rob - yeah they’re good to deal with. Very quick delivery. But sadly you have to factor in the dreaded duty/VAT that you’ll get hit with on the way in.

Rob - guy I use in Germany for the oil lines is called Peter Boxdorfer. Contact him at peterboxdorfer@t-online.de and tell him I sent you - he’ll look after you. James

Yamiya certainly have some nice looking stuff. I fitted a soft copper washer today and I’m hoping it will do the job otherwise I’ll be ordering from Yamiya. Hopefully I wont need to send off the pipe but the info is good to know for the future.

Thanks for all your help James...  much appreciated!
