You need to remove the tube that is in the clamps you have removed the clamp bolts and bits from. It needs to be tapped out so the end you removed the split pin from id driven into the stand and all the way through until it drops out the other side and you can pull the stand away. Sounds easy, but 99% of them are rusted solid and wont budge, so if it doesn't move, you'll have to cut through the tube inside of the frame brackets that you removed the nuts and bolts from and buy a new tube after getting the remains of the old one out of the stand pivot. Good luck, and Do Not resort to hammering the tube too hard, you could cause damage to brackets on the frame leading to more aggro and expense!

I can't find the recent thread which had the same question regarding getting the pin out, so if anyone else can point it out?

For these things corroded in quite often they'll respond to a sds hammer drill with rotary stop. You have to find something suitable to use as a drift of the right diameter.

It's quite gentle when compared to hitting it with a lump hammer,  but you just have to lean lightly on it and be persistent.  It'll take a while but you'll normally get the rust / corrosion starting fall out first and eventually it'll start to move.

For a drift you can use a sds to 1/2" square drive adapter, then an old extension bar plus a suitable size socket.

Once you've cut it loose from the frame, get it nice and hot and dunk it in oil.  Then, with some persuading, it'll come out.
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

Yep, Dave Silver Spares has genuine ones listed  https://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/CB400F-SUPER-SPORT-FOUR/part_3388/   More than 20 in stock.

I thought that as well, he has it listed as a genuine part, maybe it's been upgrade by Honda, or they happen to know it's from a different bike and sell it as a 400/4 part as well. Often Honda changed the design of parts without changing the part number. Come to think of it, I ordered one for a CB175 back in the late 90's and argued with the store man that the original was hollow and the new one was solid, he said that's what Honda supplied for the part number on the fiche.

I thought the genuine ones were hollow Hairy, that looks a solid bar.

Jesus I think I'm becoming an anorak as I noticed that too. Must be 35 years since I removed one! Brain must not be as crumbly as I (and others) thought.
One day I'll have the time to restore it, not just talk and dream....

I as well had that problem with mine and I have had it with previous bikes with the tube type pins. The problem is when they corrode if you try and drift them out they start to miss form and collapse, I used the saw method but I had a cengar saw with a hacksaw blade on some you have to grind a bit off the blade but not the Honda . The solid type pin is a sensible upgrade as it can be drifted out easy but that shouldn't happen with the type of easy life these bikes are getting now compared to the all year use when they were new.  Make sure to clean the inside of the stand tube with emery or scotchbrite and the pin is a smooth fit and remember to grease it.

I cant afford to get the bike to 'as mr Honda made' condition but I do intend to get it to look like it is from a showroom. I'll go with the solid bar and be done with it  ;D

So, as per my project thread, I've got as far as cutting a slot along the length with a (modified) hacksaw blade, but it's still not moving anywhere. I think I might try and cut another slot a bit further round, to remove a chunk of the tube and get it moving.

That's the best way to do it, do the second cut fairly close to the first ( 5-10mm away) then with an old screwdriver or similar try tapping the thin strip in towards the middle. Once that is done it gives you space to crush the main part of the tube towards the centre, then it will come out.

One of the Centre stand lugs on mine has broken off. Presumably when the previous owner (honest) was trying to remove it. Does anyone make and supply a pattern part replacement or will I have to get one fabricated and welded in?
